Some last thoughts

In finalizing my PowerPoint slides, it occurred to me to be sure and have members locate verses in their Bibles as I teach. It's important to be able to find a passage in Scripture and practicing in class never hurts!

I know you all are pondering "What should we learn from Nahum?" Top of mind is "How does it apply to our lives today?" Join me in prayer that God will make His message from Nahum clear to us today.

This has been a very difficult lesson for me to get my arms around.

The main thrust of the lesson is God's justice, which I am fine with. We learn aspects of God's character that are true but don't play well to today's society that wants only a God of love, not one of judgment. I'm also okay with this and believe we should present the full range of God's character.

Where I think Lifeway jumps the shark on this lesson is in the "Social Justice" category. How do you make the leap from this book to fighting injustice? Nahum tells us Israel's punishment is God's justice (1:12), so I would not call this injustice! Second, how do they make the leap to US (we Christians) fighting injustice when we're supposed to trust God's character and leave the justice to Him?

Good question! During the night, it came to me to start the class by asking the class to contemplate during the lesson what God's message is to us today from the book of Nahum. As the end I think I want to ask members to privately confess sin and seek forgiveness from the same God we just talked about in Nahum.
