Driving interest

The PowerPoint slides I'll use Sunday are posted under the name Relate Appropriately.

What was your key interest when you were in the eighth grade? I'm thinking of an interest that really got you excited. One that you told others about and recruited them to get involved. What interest captured your imagination?

I loved reading science fiction books. I would discuss them with friends, and we would make drawings of the fictional machines, or characters. I made ray guns from flash lights, flying saucers from dinner plates, and poster sized drawings of battle scenes. All of this fostered an interest in science and math, which my parents encouraged by helping me buy and assemble kits that helped devlop practical engineering skills.
