How can I handle life’s uncertainties?

For August 13, the LifeWay Explore the Bible lesson from Eccl 9:1-11:6 is titled “How can I handle life’s uncertainties?” Verse 9:11 makes clear that uncertainty in life is guaranteed. When things go wrong, how do you respond? To introduce the lesson, show a slide of various quotations of Murphy’s Law and ask members to share ones they have experienced in life. As they answer, highlight how the people involved responded. When finished, point out the topic of the lesson is how to respond when things don’t go as we expect.

Ron,

It seems Mr. Murphy is taking a real interest in me these last few days. Today while driving I was hit by a vehicle running a stop sign. The vehicle was still functional (fender bender) and after the exchange of info we resumed our lunch time excursion. While on the way we were very nearly run off the road by a big truck. Mr. Murphy sure gets alot of credit for bad things happening but I don't believe that is quite biblical. Rather than be angry with the other driver, or be bitter about the damage to the vehicle, I am just pleased that nobody got hurt. These vehicles will rust away some day, but we will remain. I agreed with the point of this part of the lesson that it is not the things that happen to us we are judged by but by how we react to both good and bad experiences in our lives! Kind Regards,
Lloyd

I find it interseting that when we talk about life's uncertainties we always talk about bad things. No one ever talks about the difficulty in dealing with the uncertainty of new circumstances surrounding an unexpected promotion or a bonus at work. I am going to ask my class to name some uncertainties that they deal with in life and see if anybody gives anything good and then ask this question. I know I have probably benefited more than once from the race not gong to the swift.

Chris,

Sorry I was tied up this weekend and didn't see your post earlier.

You make an interesting point. I suppose how we deal with good uncertainties as well as the bad ones is important.

I especially like your notion that at times we are beneficiaries and are not the "swift".

Let us know if anyone in your class named a "good" uncertainty. I'd guess none were shared.
