Step 4 of “Carefully Evaluate Explanations” warns us not to make false assumptions to explain suffering as Job’s friend Zophar did in Job 11:6b, 13-15; 13:4. It occurred to me that we sometimes learn best (or most) when we make mistakes. Can you recall a time when you made a wrong assumption, took some action, or made some conclusion about another person, and then learned a life lesson when you found out that you were mistaken? See Proverbs 12:18.
Recall the adage, “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.” Show current article headlines and ask members to quickly make a decision about the contents of the article. This should cause members to demonstrate how we are quick to make judgments without knowing the facts.
